South Downs National Park are delighted to announce the launch of the Health and Wellbeing Travel Grant 2024/25

South Downs National Park are excited to announce the launch of their Health and Wellbeing Travel Grant. Organisations working with community groups visiting the South Downs National Park may be able to benefit from our Health and Wellbeing Travel Grant.
South Downs National Park

The partnership between South Downs National Park Authority, Community Transport Sussex (SDNPA) and West Sussex Healthwatch supported the establishment of this grant through the small pilot we ran in 2023.  We explored the barriers of accessing the park and found transport was the biggest barrier.

We invited a number of community groups to RSPB Pulborough Brooks for a gentle walk with other people, and afterwards, enjoyed  tea and cake.  We then took some time out to ask some questions about their relationship with SDNPA.  Listening to local voices, Healthwatch wrote the final report and listed some recommendations.  At the top of the list was transport. Following the publication of the report, we have now seen the introduction of the Health and Wellbeing Travel Grant.  We hope as many groups as possible take advantage of the grant to support their health and wellbeing through accessing nature.

Health and Wellbeing Travel Grants

Organisations working with community groups visiting the South Downs National Park may be able to benefit from our Health and Wellbeing Travel Grant. This can help with the costs of a trip by contributing towards the transport.

South Downs National Park Health and Wellbeing Travel Grant is designed to:

  • connect communities with the special qualities of the National Park, through getting outdoors, nature-based activities and real-world experiences in the South Downs National Park
  • support health and wellbeing outcomes for the participants.
