Aldingbourne Community Centre Team have their voices heard about WSCC's proposal
As the Aldingbourne Community Centre team hurried around find more chairs, Amanda Jupp (Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care), Deborah Robinson (lead for the Minimum Income Guarantee work) and Ruth Corden (County Council’s Adult Social Care Improvement & Quality Team) took to the mics to explain West Sussex County Council’s proposal to reducing the minimum income guarantee to a packed room of service users, and a few carers.
The audience heard some complex terms, and why the Council propose to make this change. Basically, people who pay towards the cost of their funded social care, who are under the age of 65, will be £5 a week (approximately) worse off.
People raised many concerns and voiced their disapproval of the plan, some with great passion. Some people gave reasons why this change would not be good for them and the noted from previous focused discussions will be shared with Mrs Jupp to inform her decision-making.
The panel were again made aware of the Healthwatch Financial Fairness report and the recommendations with this report, which have still to be realised.
